These waning days of summer are prime time for farmer's markets around the city and country. My local markets in Windsor Terrace and Grand Army Plaza are bursting with color.
We happen to be in the process of painting and sprucing up our house and the visual feast of the market put me in the mood to decorate with fruit and vegetable related ephemera. I have some lovely and frameable examples of commercial art drawn for seed packets, nursery catalogues and agricultural yearbooks.
I will have a few other farm/market related items out with me at the Brooklyn Flea this weekend including a variety of berry carriers and trugs. They are very useful for sorting and displaying all kinds of items and bring rustic to charm to interiors.
One final image that seems to sum up the cheerful farmer's market AND back to school vibe of the season…A vintage WA state apple ad from the 1960s
