You can also find us at the Brooklyn Flea‘s winter home at 625 Atlantic Avenue (right across from the Barclay Center). We have an expansive and well-stocked booth including a large selection of antique books. Oh, and there’s a huge Smorgasburg sharing the space with us with lots of room to hang out.

Pattern Play

Pattern and color define our aesthetics here at Windsor Place Antiques….minimalists we are not! Summer is still in full swing, but with Fall just around the corner, we’re starting to think about richer and denser colors, patterns and textures. We’ve got some new and restocked merchandise in the shop that feels perfect for the season.

One of my favorite sources of inspiration is India with its ancient tradition of hand block printing and beautiful use of vibrant color. We have some lovely 1970s made in India “new old stock” silk scarves. At only $8 each you can add a few to your fall wardrobe.

In the home decorating department, we have more Grammar of Ornament prints in stock, matted and ready for framing.

With so many to choose from- the patterns from India and Persia are among my favorites.

We also have some new chromolithographic plates in the same vein. Published in 1883, the plates from Ornamentenschatz. Ein Musterbuch stilvoller Ornamente aus allen Kunstepochen by Dolmetsch, Heinrich are a bit darker and more baroque in appearance than the ones from Grammar of Ornament. The detail and richness of color is impressive.

My friend Cindy Fazio recently sent me a photo of two Grammar of Ornament prints purchased and matted here. She framed them in simple white 12×16 frames and added two adorable pups to the assemblage. Thank you for sharing- We love seeing our prints up on your walls.

We’re Going on Summer Vacation and Leaving You with a Market Basket of Summer Produce Prints

First off- We are taking a summer vacation from August 1st- August 15th. The shop will be closed during this time. We will be at the Brooklyn Flea on Sundays in Dumbo on August 5th and August 12th, so if you need a vintage fix…. look for us there.

When we reopen for the second half of August we will have lots of fresh new displays and merchandise.

Speaking of fresh, I wanted to share some seasonable and summery antique prints of farmer’s market produce- stone fruits, berries and hot weather crops that look good enough to eat. These enticing images are from Victorian seed catalogs, agricultural journals and natural history texts. Feel free to reach out for pricing and availability.

June Wrap Up & Summer Picks

IMG_4721Some of you might (???) recognize Ken in this awesome photo from the Drag March which took place during Pride weekend. Ken, who goes by Hucklefaery, has brought a lot of creativity and joy into my life, and brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm into everything he does. If you want to read more about the Drag March, including an interview with Hucklefaery, you can find it here.

As June wraps up, I’d like to share some decorating picks for high summer. I’ve been feeling kind of nautical as the weather dramatically heats up. Here’s a snapshot of my sea-worthy booth at the Brooklyn Flea last weekend. The vintage zoology classroom charts in the background are available for $150 each and would look amazing in a beach house.

Some other summery decorative arts in the shop:

Vintage brass sand dollars and clam shells found in a Connecticut barn that hadn’t been touched since 1978. Lots of new old stock gift items from the ’60s and ’70s, including jewelry, silk scarves and other boho imported stuff. Keep an eye out for it in my booth at the Brooklyn Flea or in the shop.

And beautiful shore birds from Jardine’s Naturalists’ Library. These hand-colored engravings were printed in 1843. Matted for 8×10 frames and priced at $28 each.
